About Aoki Energy Center

Clearway Energy Group is in the process of developing the Aoki Energy Center, bringing the benefits of energy storage to Las Vegas, Nevada.  This infrastructure is increasingly important to help stabilize local energy prices, with energy demand in the region forecast to grow 55% by 2044.

By delivering power when and where it is needed most, energy storage helps create a more resilient and reliable energy grid for the region. The facility will collect excess energy from the electrical grid, storing that power until times of high demand.   Storage also helps drive down energy costs by charging when electricity prices are low and later discharging that energy when prices are high.

Clearway is eager to hear feedback from the Las Vegas community about the Aoki project.

Aoki project highlights & benefits

Aoki Energy Center represents a $700 million investment in Las Vegas's energy future—funded entirely by private capital. In addition to strengthening the local grid, the energy storage project will bring revenue and jobs into the wider southern Nevada economy.

Clearway intends to purchase land on the northwestern outskirts of the City of Las Vegas. The facility aims to begin construction in late 2026 and could come online as early as spring 2028. The Aoki system will operate for 30 years.
Economic opportunity for Las Vegas:
The project will contribute an estimated $9.2 million in local taxes over its lifetime. This creates new support for the schools, first responders, and other public services. Construction of the facility will also create 75 jobs.  Clearway always prioritizes hiring local.
Creating a more resilient grid:
Like back-up batteries or generators, battery energy storage systems can supply the electrical grid during power disruptions or extreme weather outages. This ensures critical infrastructure and safety systems, from lighting to air conditioning, can keep running when needed.
Reducing power costs:
By storing excess energy when electricity prices are low, and later discharging that energy when demand is high, energy storage can help make the most efficient use of our grid, helping utilities and households save money on electricity.
